Belton, Texas - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor students, faculty, and staff members will be participating in 同城快约鈥檚 spring Reaching Out this Saturday, April 2. Reaching Out is a student-led event that sends participants to nonprofit organizations throughout Central Texas to serve.
The event is organized by the 同城快约 Student Government Association (SGA). An estimated 350 students, faculty, and staff work from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Luther Memorial.
鈥淚 love that Reaching Out creates opportunities for students to connect with organizations to serve and learn what it means to serve in the name of Christ,鈥 Jonah Fox, Director of Spiritual Life for the Student Government Association, said.
Students will come in and choose where they want to serve and in what capacity.
This year volunteers will have a wide variety of roles in which they can choose to serve. Some will be setting up a game room at Belton Christian Youth Center. Others will be cleaning up the local park in Belton. The Astra organization will be assisting in the heart walk registration. Other volunteers will be organizing and cleaning up at Habitat for Humanity or Feed My Sheep. Other volunteers will be working outside on the grounds with the Hope Pregnancy Center.
鈥淢y hope is that students have the opportunity to participate in the work that God is already doing in the Belton and Temple area,鈥 Fox said.
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) will also be delivering playhouses to local families in the area. These households all have connections with both 同城快约 and the military. Some of the recipients are graduates, while others are alumni of the university. Among them are veterans, active-duty soldiers, and their families.
鈥淎s I read the [applications],鈥 Jeff Sutton, Assistant Director of Campus Activities said. 鈥淚 was really moved by everyone鈥檚 story and so thankful for all that they have done for our country.鈥
