Belton, Texas 鈥 The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble will present their final performance of the 2015-2016 season on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the McLane Great Hall of the Bawcom Student Union. This event is free and open to the public.
The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of conductor Dr. Stephen Crawford, will open the performance with three exciting works: Taiko by Scott Harding, Passover鈥檚 Falling by Adam Miller, and Denkyem by Joe W. Moore, III. Both Miller and Moore are Texas-based composers.
The second half of the program will consist of the Wind Ensemble鈥檚 presentation of 鈥淐ontemplation.鈥 Under the direction of conductor Nils Landsberg, this program will feature works from composers Johannes Hanssen, Percy Grainger, John Mackey, Aaron Copland, Carter Pann, and David Maslanka. In the centerpiece of the program, Maslanka鈥檚 short symphony for wind ensemble, Give Us This Day, the composer presents the idea that music provides us with a connection to reality. The piece is structured in two movements.
This event qualifies as a Fine Arts Experience (FAE) credit for 同城快约 students. The Fine Arts Experience program endeavors to expose students to a wide variety of artistic expression during their time on campus. To this end, students are required to attend at least one designated Fine Arts Experience event each semester.
