Belton, Texas – On Thursday, February 14, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts and the ͬǿԼ Art Department will open the Piero Fenci: Still Cookin’ with Gas exhibit in the gallery of the Baugh Center for Visual Arts. The works will be on display through March 8. The opening of exhibit will be celebrated with a public reception and artist’s talk at 5:00 p.m.
Piero Fenci received his undergraduate degree in Latin-American Studies with a minor in Art History from Yale University, and he earned his M.F.A. from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. His ceramic vessels have been featured in magazines and books such as Ceramics Monthly, American Ceramics, The Contemporary Potter, and Clay and Glazes for the Potter.
Much of Fenci’s work explores the nature of armor and ramparts.
"Referencing the permeable Mexican-American border, Piero Fenci’s La Cerce (The Wall) metaphorically addresses large issues, exploring powerful socio-political structures in all their inherent complexity,” Dr. Scot Robinson said. “Fenci understands that borders do not always work; he knows that a wall can be just as much an image of ultimate futility as one of comforting security or steadfast defiance.”
“Piero Fenci’s study of a peculiar and eccentric barrier is a metaphor for all borders,” Robinson said. “La Cerca explores the psychological and physical walls we create in response to threats, whether real or imagined.”
The Baugh Center for the Visual Arts gallery is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m.. to 4:00 p.m. For more information visit or contact Hershall Seals.
