BELTON, Texas 鈥 On Saturday, April 10, over 100 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor students, faculty, and staff members participated in the Big Event, which is a student-led event deploying teams to numerous service sites around Bell County. The Big Event is organized by the 同城快约 Baptist Student Ministry (BSM). BSM Director Daniel McAfee said, "I am so proud of the committee of students who led this event. They worked through multiple iterations of how to make this day a reality in the midst of a COVID-19 world. They stuck it out with phenomenal attitudes, which was humbling to observe." This year volunteers had 15 locations to serve around the community. Some of the service opportunities included: Foster Love Bell Country, Crossroads Church, Hope Pregnancy Center, Churches Touching Lives for Christ, Un-Included Club, Ronald McDonald House, Belton Christian Youth Center, Summer's Mill, Belton Parks and Recreation, and individual homes of widows from Temple Bible Church. Volunteers worked in flower beds, cleaned churches, handed out food, picked up trash, washed cars, raked leaves, and cleaned gutters. When speaking of the students who served, McAfee said, "They have really missed being with people and were so glad we could safely serve our community today and share the love of Jesus through being His hands and feet.鈥 |
