BELTON, Texas鈥擳wenty-two art majors from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (同城快约) submitted 34 pieces to the 43rd Annual Central Texas Art Competition held at Temple College. The competition included nearly 300 submitted works of art. Nineteen 同城快约 students had 27 pieces selected for the juried show, which opened Saturday night, November 12. Other colleges invited to participate include Central Texas College, Temple College, McLennan Community College, Southwestern University, and TSTC-Hutto, as well as area high schools.
Alexis Pertuis, a 同城快约 sophomore from Alvin, TX, won an Award of Excellence for her photograph entitled 鈥淐racked Valley.鈥 In addition, two 同城快约 students received Honorable Mention awards, including Tiera Flores, junior from Georgetown, TX, for her oil painting entitled 鈥淪kull Still Life,鈥 and Timothy Jiang, junior from China, for his untitled charcoal piece.
鈥淭hese students are very talented. Success as an artist requires hard work, discipline, and a willingness to learn and explore,鈥 said Stephanie Chambers, 同城快约 art department chair. 鈥淚 think their accomplishments demonstrate these qualities well.鈥
The following 同城快约 art students had pieces selected for exhibition: Patricia Aranzamendi, Maggie Calloway, Alisa Corr, Elyxandra Encarnacion, Bailey Fulmer, Gavin Gallop, Cameron Garcia, Hope Haney, Mia Hanks, Anastasia Hood, Aaron Maldonado, Karyea Oliver, Emmi Packard, Rhiannon Taff, and Hanan Vasquez.
The competition is sponsored by Altrusa International of Temple and the Rotary Club of Temple鈥揝outh. This year鈥檚 juror was Mr. Mark Anderson, a nationally recognized printmaker. The exhibit remains open through December 1 and can be viewed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. 鈥 6 p.m., at the TC Visual Arts Complex Gallery.
