Investment Club Strategy
The investment horizon for the Club portfolio is infinite, in keeping with the concept of an endowment for the University as a whole. Yet due to the generally risk-seeking nature of undergraduates, the Club may take somewhat more risk than a typical long-term endowment.
The Club goal is to outperform the S&P 500 index on an annual basis. Given that two-thirds of professional money managers miss this mark year-over-year, the Club is setting a high-bar.
Our mandate is to perform fundamental analysis on potential individual assets for buy/sell decisions. Our donor wanted the Club to exclude Mutual funds, Index funds, or other broad-based funds in which others have done the analysis. Through this our members learn to evaluate each company, bond, REIT, or commodity on its own merits.
